People

Our greatest strength is in the people — students, faculty, and staff — who have come together to build our research programs. Catalysis is a multi-disciplinary science, and we welcome faculty and students from across Penn State, each of whom brings their individual excitement and expertise to our endeavors. Because catalysis is a broadly applied field, associated research programs are distributed across the University, and include research groups in the College of Engineering, College of Agriculture, Eberly College of Science, and College of Earth and Mineral Sciences. We also collaborate closely with faculty and staff in the Materials Characterization Lab, the Materials Research Institute, and the Institutes of Energy and the Environment.

Our broad, vibrant, and diverse group of faculty have expertise in research areas at the core of catalysis science. These include reaction kinetics and mechanisms; materials synthesis and characterization; computational modeling; electrochemistry; spectroscopy; and reaction engineering, among others. Because our expertise is distributed across several departments and colleges, we are able to provide students with multiple perspectives and insight into catalytic materials and processes. This also provides multiple contact points for students to interface with catalysis science. For more information on joining one of our associated units, please see the Graduate Studies page.

Our current members are arranged below both by research area and college. Please see individual faculty pages for details on specific research group interests. This large and diverse group of faculty provides an exceptionally broad range of student research opportunities—interested and motivated students are sure to find research projects that match their interests and inspire their professional development.
